Meatless Monday: Banana Protein Soft Serve
As a registered dietitian and parent, I’ve learned there’s one category of food that almost never fails to get kids excited:
Anything that resembles ice cream.
The challenge, of course, is finding options that feel fun and satisfying without turning every snack into a sugar rush followed by a crash.
That’s exactly why this Banana Protein Soft Serve became such a staple in our house.
The first time I made it, I honestly framed it as “banana ice cream” because, visually, that’s exactly what it looks like. Thick, creamy, scoopable, and cold enough to feel like something straight from an ice cream shop.
The reaction? Immediate success.
And from my perspective, it checked every box I look for in a family-friendly recipe:
simple ingredients,
quick prep,
naturally sweet flavor,
and a balance of protein, fiber, and carbohydrates that actually keeps everyone satisfied.
The frozen bananas create an incredibly creamy texture all on their own—no heavy cream required. Yogurt adds richness and protein, while cinnamon brings warmth and flavor that makes the whole thing taste more dessert-like. Then the berries on top brighten everything up with freshness and color.
What I love most is how approachable this recipe is.
No baking.
No fancy equipment beyond a blender.
No complicated steps.
It’s the kind of recipe you can make on a warm afternoon, after school, or anytime your kids want “something sweet” and you want an option that feels a little more balanced.
And honestly? I make it for myself just as often.
Because good nutrition should still feel enjoyable.
